Format:
This is an instructor lead class limited to 15 students per online classroom. The ADCA recognizes all US Holidays and will accommodate students schedules accordingly. Please check the calendar for holiday schedules and breaks.
Description:
This course is geared toward the individual that has little to no experience in the dental coding and billing field. This is our flagship product to get you started in this lucrative career.
This class is an intensive 12 week instructor lead, student to student interactive program. The course offers instructor time, student to student interaction through a private student forum and class room time with required assignments. You will be required to sign in to the on-line learning enviroment (OLE) a minimum of two times per week for attendance thru the duration of the class. There is no required time to login for attendance, it is on your own time at your convenience day or night.
You will be required to perform weekly readings from our secure E-book, answer weekly discussion questions, and complete a personal assignment each week prior to the assignment due date. You will also be required to complete an exam at the end of each module with a passing grade of 75% or more. Once you have completed the course you will receive a certificate of completion, certificates are mailed to students within 6-8 weeks after completing the course.
The following topics will be taught during the course:
Module One – Dental Terminology, Facial Anatomy and the Tooth Numbering System: This module is used to familiarize the individual with key dental terminology commonly used in a dental office, common clinical dental terms, facial anatomy and the tooth numbering system.
Module Two – Coding Concepts, Insurance Billing and Appeals: This module is used to familiarize the individual with how to properly fill out and complete an ADA 2006, CMS-1500 and DHMO encounter form. As well as teach the individual how to accurately read an insurance card to determine the difference between medical, dental, PPO, POS and HMO insurance plans. In addition to teaching the individual how to read an insurance card the individual will learn how to read and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and appeal claims as necessary. The individual will learn how to make a proper collection call and how to set up a treatment plan. It will further familiarize the individual with HIPAA and proper office etiquette.
Module Three – Dental and Medical Coding: This module is used to familiarize the individual with ICD-9-CM, CPT and CDT codes most commonly used in the dental field. It will explain the difference between the codes and when it is appropriate to use each code. It will give the individual an understanding of how and when to bill a patient’s medical carrier for procedures that are covered under the medical carriers plan of benefits.
