Description:

This course is geared toward the individual that has exposure in the dental coding and billing industry and has worked in a dental office however, medical coders should do just fine with the ISP. If you have no experience in this field we strongly recommend taking the online class as it is more comprehensive and you will have a qualified instructor to guide you thru the learning process. The ISP is a self paced Independent Study Program. This course DOES NOT include instructor time, student to student interaction, class room time, or a certificate of completion; it is an E-book that will teach current coders the concepts required to pass the CDC certification exam. The ISP is broken into three modules.

Module One – Dental Terminology, Facial Anatomy and the Tooth Numbering System: This module is used to familiarize the individual with key dental terminology commonly used in a dental office, common clinical dental terms, facial anatomy and the tooth numbering system.

Module Two – Coding Concepts, Insurance billing and Appeals: This module is used to familiarize the individual with how to properly fill out and complete an ADA 2006, CMS-1500 and DHMO encounter form. As well as teach the individual how to accurately read an insurance card to determine the difference between medical, dental, PPO, POS and HMO in addition to teaching them how to read an Explanation of benefits and appeal claims as necessary. You will learn how to make a proper collection call and how to set up a treatment plan. It will further familiarize the individual with HIPAA and proper office etiquette.

Module Three – Dental and Medical Coding: This module is used to familiarize the individual with ICD-9-CM, CPT and CDT codes most commonly used in the dental field. It will explain the difference between the codes and when it is appropriate to use each code. It will give the individual an understanding of how and when to bill a patient’s medical carrier for procedures that are covered under the medical carriers plan of benefits.

Note:
