It has been observed that almost all the dental insurance carriers are denying the charge for the code D9230 – Analgesia, Nitrous Oxide. What is the reason for the denial? Also, what is the alternate code that we can use to charge for this?
Nitrous Oxide is only covered when "Medical Necessity" is present (i.e. anxious state, down's syndrome, or other mental issue) that requires the use of Nitrous Oxide. Most carriers require medical necessity for payment.
