What is the proper way to bill for multiple restorations on the same tooth when they do not touch? For instance, restorations done on tooth #2 surfaces MO (touching) and #2 surface B (tooth structure between MO surfaces and B)? If we bill D2392 #2 MO and D2391 #2 B, we will only be paid for one. Can we bill D2393 in this case even though it is actually two fillings? Thank you!

Positive Negative

This would be considered a 3 surface restoration and should be billed out as such. You should never unbundle a restoration on a single tooth. The code for a MOB on tooth # 2 is D2393 regardless of whether the cavity is touching or not. Restorations are billed out by surface not extent or position of cavity.
