Should a Dentist charge a separate lab fee for this type of crown

No, there is just the code for the crown, the office would set the price for the porcelain crown to include the fee for the lab. There is no separate ICD code for a lab fee, the porcelain crown code is D2740. It’s not a separate code or fee. On a treatment plan/bill to the patient there shouldn’t be an additional charge for the lab fee it should be built in already

Agree with prior post, dentist do not usually charge a lab fee. BE careful charging more than the allowed amount on contracted plans and covered services; that is a compliance no no.

Hello! Typically, dentists do not charge an additional lab fee for a porcelain crown. I have seen dentists charge an additional lab fee on top of the D2740 for certain insurances and fee schedules if the insurance pays a low reimbursement, but most dentists do not charge an additional lab fee for D2740. It's really up to the provider.
