    Correct usage of code D2940
Most of the descriptors I am seeing for this code state this is not a definitive restoration. Therefore, if this code is used should the patient be returning for a permanent restoration?

I found this on the webpage: https://www.dentalclaimsupport.com/blog/examining-cdt-code-d2940-do-you-place-protective-restorations-at-the-emergency-appointment#:~:text=The%20nomenclature%20defines%20D2940%20as%20a%20protective%20restoration.,outside%20the%20mouth%20then%20placed%20on%20the%20tooth This type of restoration is accurately documented and reported to the payer using code D2940 which was revised a few years ago. The previous code nomenclature defined this code as a sedative filling. The current code language includes a revised nomenclature and a descriptor. D2940 protective restoration Direct (more)

Patient comes in for pain. Has tooth extracted. Can a D9110 or D01240 be billed with the D7140?
    Admin May 4, 2019 2:08 pm
CDT code D9110 is typically inclusive of the extraction and therefor will be rejected when submitted at the same time as an extraction. As for the other code D01240 this code does not exist. If the code you were intending is D0120 that would be an inappropriate code as well, since the patient is coming (more)

How to charge for downcoded D4260
D4260 may be downcoded to D4261 due to periodontal charting . Isf full quad of surgery is done, is the patient responsible for the difference up to the full quad fee of the limited quad fee?
    asw0929 May 15, 2022 7:44 pm
You're stating that the insurance downcoded the procedure based upon the evidence of the perio chart? It would depend on if you are in network or out of network with the insurance company as to how they process the difference when they downcode the procedure. If you are in network, it's likely that they process (more)

CAN D9222 BE BILLED TWICE ON ONE DATE OF SERVICE?
PT CAME IN THIS MORNING HAD TOOTH #8 EXTRACTED WITH D9222 AND D9223 PT RETURNED THIS AFTERNOON AND HAD TOOTH #9 EXTRACTED WITH D9222 AND D9223 CAN I SUBMIT 2 SEPARATE CLAIMS TO INSURANCE WITH EACH HAVING D9222 LISTED?
    asw0929 May 16, 2022 7:38 pm
It is very likely that the insurance is going to deny the second D9222 and D9223. I would submit medical records indicating the need for general anesthesia the second time (twice in a day). This is a rare occurrence, and it's likely that it will be denied as you already had the patient sedated once (more)

Is there a list of conditions that are from the ADA specifically
I know there are snow med and snow dent - but the ada has their own list of condition codes right?
    asw0929 August 18, 2022 7:02 pm
I am unsure, honestly, how to answer this. I am not familiar with anything beyond SNOMED and SNODENT. https://www.ada.org/resources/practice/dental-standards/snodent

Can you enter two separate restoration Codes
Can you enter two separate restoration codes on the same day for the same tooth or is it correct to bill as a two surface restoration even though the restorations are not touching. For instance tooth #30 has occlusal but also separate buccal.
    asw0929 August 18, 2022 6:57 pm
If the fillings touch then it’s one two surface filling. If they don’t touch/aren’t connected then it’s two one surface fillings. Insurance will typically downgrade it and pay based on a two surface, but you have to always bill what you do.

    D2930 and D1510
    Can I bill D2930 and D1510 separately?
    Admin January 25, 2023 6:36 am
Need more information. One is a crown code and one is a space maintainer. You always bill for what you do so I’m not sure what you are asking?

What code do I use for reattaching a locator abutment for an implant supported removeable denture?
    asw0929 May 18, 2022 10:43 am
There is no code specific to just reattaching the locator abutment. I would say that you should bill D6199 and include documentation reporting what was completed.
