This is a two part class designed to teach the candidate everything related to dental billing and coding. At the end the student will possess a Certified Dental Billing Specialist credential and the prestigious Certified Dental Coder credential. The student may take both classes simultaneously, or one after another depending on their level of comfort.
Both classes are an intensive 8 week on-demand interactive program offering reading material, instructional videos, and quizzes to test your knowledge . There is no required time to login to class, it is self-paced, on your own time at your convenience day or night. Instructors are available via phone during scheduled office hours or via email 24/7 to answer any questions you may have or assist you with any material you may be struggling with.
Please note you may complete both courses earlier than 8 weeks depending on your skill level and time put in. We understand some of you have time constraints and other obligations for this reason you will be given up to 6 months to complete each course in its entirety equaling 1 full calendar year.
Certified Dental Billing Specialist (CDBS):
This course is geared toward the individual that has little to no dental billing and front office experience and is interested in learning the business side of dentistry
The following topics will be taught during the course:
Module One – Explore what a Certified Dental Billing Specialist (CDBS) is and what obligations and commitments are required of a CDBS.
Module Two – Dental Anatomy and Terminology.
Module Three and Four – An in-depth look at insurance carriers (Insurance cards, Policy, Utilization Review Guidelines, Appeals process)
Module Five and Six – Coding Concepts (HIPAA, Risk Management, Obamacare)
Module Seven and Eight – Front office duties (Appointment scheduling, collection calls, co-payments, pre-authorizations, benefit determination)
Module Nine – An in-depth look at CDT coding, proper documentation, code usage and assignment, Code pricing, how to use the CDT coding manual.
Module Ten – Treatment Planning, Case Presentation and Claim Submission
Module Eleven – Difference in Dental Software (EagleSoft and Dentirx)
Module Twelve – Capstone and review of module one thru eleven along with the CDBS examination.
Certified Dental Coder (CDC):
This course is geared toward the individual that has dental billing and front office experience and is interested in learning the coding and documentation side of dentistry.
The following topics will be taught utilizing coding manuals:
Module I- Will go over what a Certified Dental Coder (CDC) is and what obligations and commitments are required of a CDC.
Module II - The history of ICD codes and an insiders look at ICD-10-CM coding and what it means for dentistry.
Module III - ICD-10-CM coding exercises with in-depth explanation of codes and usage to familiarize the coder with proper assignment.
Module IV & V - An in-depth look at CDT coding, proper documentation, code usage and assignment, popular code utilization review guidelines, how to use the CDT coding manual.
Module VI & VII - CPT (medical codes) documentation, templates, code utilization / review guidelines with global inclusions, modifiers, assignment, & cross-code evaluation.
Module VIII- Capstone and review of module one thru seven along with CDC examination.
This course DOES NOT include your CDT®, CPT® or ICD-10-CM® coding manuals.
