My dentist office says that once I have received a D4910 coding for Periodontal Maintenance that it will never to able to be considered D1110 even if I just get a routine cleaning after that. I feel that they are trying to get more money for a basic cleaning. Can they code cleaning to D1110 now?

Once a patient has periodontal disease it is usually the patient has to be free of periodontal disease at least a year before going back to traditional prophy. You cannot alternate the two either from my understanding.

Hi! Typically, insurances will cover D1110 after history of D4910. I would recommend reviewing your benefits just to confirm, but typically you shouldn’t have a problem with switching back to D1110
