Are there any resources available for orthodontic billing and coding specifically? I work for Kool Smiles Corporate and I'm trying to find a course that will allow me to become certified as an ortho billing specialist.
    Admin January 6, 2013 1:05 pm
The ADCA will be coming out with an orthodontic specific course and credentials late 2013.

Ok. I am posting payments for claims paid. Some of the procedures need corrections and have been rejected. But I still have to post the ones paid.Do i delete the claim and just select the ones paid and post those.select the other ones that need corrections and print a new claim and resubmit them?
    Admin December 28, 2012 2:57 pm
It would depend on the dental software you are utilizing as to how payments are posted and how claims are regenerated, you will probably benefit from contacting your software vendor and having them give you a course on how the software works.

Can D4355 be billed in the same day with D1110? Thank you
    Admin December 28, 2012 1:52 pm
No, the purpose of a full mouth debridement D4355 is to remove enough calculus and plaques for an exam to be performed. There would be no "medical necessity" or valid clinical reason for a full mouth debridement D4355 and an adult prophylaxis to be performed on the same day. You are either doing an adult (more)

If the surfaces do not touch on a multiple surface restoration would it be appropriate to bill two single restoration codes indicating the surface? (i.e. distal and mesial surface that are not touching) or would it be appropriate to bill 1 two surface code?
    Admin December 14, 2012 6:27 am
No, the code clearly states it is by tooth surface. Whether or not the decay touches has no bearing on the code.

Arch bar Removal CPT 20670 was performed on the maxillary and the mandible bones. That’s 2 different bones in the same operative session. Can this procedure can be reported twice. Or is this considered one procedure?
    Admin December 5, 2012 10:51 am
If this removal was part of interdental fixation device for a fracture you get 20670 once. If this is a true arch bar removal and the arch bars were not placed by the treating dentist you need to bill dental D7997, if the arch bars were placed by the treating dentist this is not a (more)

Looking for a CPT code equivalent to CDT code D7270
    Admin November 15, 2012 8:26 am
CDT code D7270 is for reimplantation and/or stabilization of accidentally evulsed or displaced tooth...since there is no direct CPT code for this procedure you would use 41899 and send a descriptive narrative along with the claim.

Is there an ICD-9-CM code for panoramic x-ray?
    Admin October 27, 2012 11:09 am
The ICD-9-CM codes tell the story of why the procedure is being performed...so the correct ICD-9-CM code to accompany the CPT code of 70355 (panaromic film) wouid depend on why the film is being taken in the first place. Example panoramic film for closed subcondylar mandibular fracture the ICD-9-CM code would be 802.22 and the (more)

Good afternoon. My question for you is the following: I submitted a claim for code D2752 which is crown- porcelain fused to nobel metal. The submission was sent with an x-ray of the tooth (#29) and an explanation on why a crown was the best treatment. The insurance company is telling me the code is wrong and that I need to resubmit with code D2792 Crown- full cast nobel metal. Why do I hae to submit for a full cast when a porcelain crown was done? Have the codes changed? How do I resubmit this? Thank you for your prompt attention.
    Admin October 27, 2012 11:02 am
I would contact the insurance carrier and ask for an explanation as to why they are requesting you to change your CDT code when it does not match the description of the procedure performed. It could be that the carrier only covers full cast nobel metal crowns. Unfortunately, this is a carrier issue not a coding (more)

A patient that is scheduled with a hygienist. Can D0180 (comp perio eval)be billed under hygienist or only under provider?
    Admin October 23, 2012 1:17 pm
D0180 cannot be billed by the hygienist as their range of practice does not include exams...this may only be billed by the DDS
